Inspiration

flashcards-cover Here is a PDF of ALL 1500 Intermediate TOPIK Vocabulary Flashcards I made over the summer. Feel free to download it and use it if you wish. I'm providing all 200 Pages for FREE for a very simple reason:
  1. Many of the images on the flashcards have personal meanings to ME that you might not understand well or be able to relate to.
For example: one the sample page (below), one of the words is 가족적 ("like a family") and the image I've chosen to associate with it is a picture of Disney's baby Tarzan with his gorilla mother. My family had just watched this movie the night before I made these, so I chose this image because I liked it best and it stuck with me the easiest. Another couple of examples: Some of the words in here were much easier for me to remember when I paired them with some of the people or things most interesting to me:
  1. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine gets 근육 ("muscles") because he's got the kind of muscular body I wish I had
  2. The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) gets 반복 ("repetition") because 반 also means "half" and 복 also means "clothes" and he often works out in the gym half-clothed - it's easier for me to remember this way
And so on. Most of these flashcards have been built with the 4 levels of memory in mind (structure, sound, concept, personal connection) and so will likely have much more meaning for me than for anyone else (because I've made a personal connection between all 1500 words and the 1500 images I chose to represent them). Nevertheless, if you think these flashcards will help you, please feel free to use them.

How to use the flashcards

flashcards-sample2 The above image is a sample from the book (page 2-3). Page 1 is a cover image, and after that, ALL 200 of the following pages follow the same format:
  1. Designed on A4 paper with exact measurements to allow front-back printing of each spread so that the images and words line up EXACTLY front-to-back (so if you need to resize the pages when you print, be sure to reduce the SAME amount from both the left and right margins to maintain the proportions properly)
  2. The OUTER-most columns match up (as indicated by the arrows), the CENTER columns match up, and the INNER-most columns match up to be sure the correct word lines up with the correct image
DOWNLOAD FLASHCARDS PDF I hope these prove to be useful for you~! They have been for me!~ (These flashcards were design with Adobe InDesign so I can't really provide an easy to use template for MS Word or other applications right now.)

Challenge

Use these! Or, if you find that they aren't meaningful enough for you, make your own! Below are the links and methods I used to help me learn how best to create my own flashcards in this way:
  1. Make memories as deep and multi-sensory as possible (Day 2)
  2. Study as little as possible (Day 3)
  3. Practice recall as much as possible (Day 3)
  4. Learn 3600 words in 4 months practicing only 30 minutes per day! (Day 4)

Over to you

Are you working on your vocab these days? How's it going? I've missed my vocab practice and creating new cards for the past 2-3 weeks because school's started up again. But after this week finishes, I'm hoping to set down a really solid schedule to get back into the habit. Let me know how you're doing in the Comments below or with #120TOPIK on social media.
