What is the TOPIK?
TOPIK: Test of Proficiency in the Korean Language (한국어능력시험)
TOPIK before July 2014
- Beginner (초급), Intermediate (중급), Advanced Levels (고급)
- Vocabulary/Grammar (어휘/문법) = 30 Q
- Writing (쓰기) = 4/6 Free writing + 10 Choice Q
- Listening (듣기) = 30 Q
- Reading (읽기) = 30 Q
- Beginner Essays: 150-300 characters
- Intermediate Essays: 400-600 characters
- Advanced Essays: 700-800 characters
TOPIK after July 2014
- 2 Levels (TOPIK I (초급 1-2), TOPIK II (중/고급 3-6))
- TOPIK II combines Intermediate and Advanced Levels (3-6)
- TOPIK I tests only Reading (40 Q) + Listening (30 Q)
- TOPIK II is Reading (50 Q) + Listening (50 Q) + Writing (4 Q)
- TOPIK II Essay 1: 200-300 characters
- TOPIK II Essay 2: 600-700 characters
